At Leather Hub, we produce genuine animal skin rugs from our own tannery in Pakistan — halal-certified cowhide, sheepskin, and hair-on hides that bring natural texture, warmth, and character to any interior. Each rug is made from a real animal hide, retaining the natural hair or fleece on one side and tanned leather on the other. No two hides are identical — the natural markings, colour variations, and hair patterns of each animal give every rug a unique character that no manufactured textile can replicate.
Our animal skin rugs are available for both wholesale and retail buyers, with direct-tannery pricing that reflects our position as the manufacturer — no importers, no distribution markups between us and you. We ship internationally, including to buyers across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.
What is a Hair-On Hide Rug?
A hair-on hide rug — also called an animal skin rug, animal pelt rug, or hide rug — is a rug made from a whole animal skin with the natural hair, fur, or fleece left intact on one side. The underside is tanned leather, giving the rug stability and durability. The hair or fleece side provides the visible, tactile surface.
Hair-on hides are different from standard leather: the tanning process preserves the hair root and skin together, rather than removing the hair to produce a smooth leather surface. The result is a rug that is both a leather product and a natural fibre surface — firm enough to lie flat on the floor, soft enough to walk on barefoot.
The most common species used for hair-on hide rugs are cowhide and sheepskin — both of which we carry. Buffalo hide, deerskin, and goatskin are also used for rugs. Each species has a distinct hair texture, weight, and natural pattern range.
Cowhide Rugs
Cowhide rugs are the most popular animal skin rug type globally, and for good reason. Cowhide is large (40–60 square feet per hide), naturally durable, and comes in a wide range of natural colour patterns — black and white, brown and white, brindle, solid brown, tan, and more. No two cowhide rugs are the same, because no two cows have the same hide markings.
Cowhide rugs are resistant to staining, do not absorb odours, and are easy to clean — making them practical as well as decorative. They work in living rooms, home offices, bedrooms, hallways, and dining areas. The flat, smooth hair lies close to the surface, making cowhide rugs easy to vacuum and maintain.
Our cowhide rugs are produced from halal-slaughtered animals in our own tannery. The hides are selected for quality, tanned to preserve the hair integrity, and finished to a flat, floor-ready surface. Available in natural and exotic print varieties.
Sheepskin Rugs
Sheepskin rugs have a deep, dense fleece on one side and tanned leather on the other. The fleece is naturally temperature-regulating — warm in winter, cool in summer — and exceptionally soft underfoot. Sheepskin rugs are popular in bedrooms next to beds, in nurseries and children's rooms, as chair throws, and as accent pieces in living rooms.
Our sheepskin rugs are produced from the same halal-certified hides as our sheepskin leather collection. The tanning process preserves the natural lanolin in the fleece, keeping it soft and naturally resistant to dirt. Available in natural off-white and a range of dyed colours.
Exotic & Printed Animal Skin Rugs
For buyers who want the look of exotic animal skin without the cost or legal restrictions of genuine exotic leather, our printed and exotic-finish cowhide rugs offer a compelling option. These are genuine cowhide hides with exotic patterns — zebra, leopard, tiger, and geometric prints — applied during the finishing process. The base material is 100% genuine cowhide; the pattern is printed or embossed onto the hair surface.
Exotic printed cowhide rugs work as statement pieces in contemporary interiors, feature walls, and commercial spaces. They deliver visual impact that natural-tone cowhides cannot match, while retaining the durability and washing ability of genuine leather.
What is an Animal Pelt?
An animal pelt is the raw or processed skin of an animal, complete with its natural fur, hair, or fleece still attached. The word 'pelt' comes from the Latin 'pellis' (skin) and is used interchangeably with 'hide' in the leather and rug trade, though technically 'pelt' more often refers to skins with hair-on, while 'hide' can refer to either hair-on or dehaired leather.
Animal pelt rugs — also called animal skin rugs, hair-on rugs, or fur rugs — retain the pelt in its hair-on state after tanning, producing a rug with a natural, tactile surface. Our rugs are made from the pelts of halal-slaughtered animals; the hair or fleece is preserved during tanning and the underside is finished as a flat leather backing.
Rugged Leather Hide Rugs — Wholesale & Trade

How to Care for Animal Skin Rugs
Cowhide Rugs:
-
Vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment — go with the direction of the hair, not against it
-
For spills: blot immediately with a clean dry cloth. Do not rub. Allow to air dry naturally.
-
For deeper cleaning: wipe with a lightly damp cloth and mild soap. Allow to air dry flat.
-
Do not machine wash, tumble dry, or dry clean — heat and agitation damage the hide and hair.
-
Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading and drying of the leather backing.
Sheepskin Rugs:
-
Shake out or vacuum on a low setting with a soft attachment to remove surface dust.
-
For spot cleaning: use a damp cloth with a small amount of wool-safe detergent.
-
To restore fluffy texture: brush gently with a wire pet brush or sheepskin brush after drying.
-
Do not machine wash — hand wash in cool water if necessary, reshape, and dry flat.
-
Store rolled, not folded, to avoid permanent creases in the fleece.
